To name but a few of our activities, they include camping in places like the Peak District or North Wales, zip wires, crate stacking (a unique Scouting activity – ask us all about it), cooking skills both indoors and on open fires, hiking, learning about other cultures and faiths, training in first aid, visiting airfields and even having visits from snakes and other slippery reptiles. All are designed to ensure our young people grow in confidence and knowledge to be the best of citizens when they grow up.
The Group is a charity in its own right but is a member of the UK Scout Association and all our activities take place under their auspices. We place a great deal of importance on safety and safeguarding – our mantra is ‘adventure without risk’ and all our volunteers undergo a rigorous training and mentoring programme to help them deliver those ‘safe yet fun’ activities.
We have four sections within the Group each led by a volunteer Team Leader:
Squirrels – Ages 4 to 6 – led by Zoë Munro
Beavers – Ages 6 to 8 – led by Zoë Ramsdale
Cubs – Ages 8 to 10 – led by Lauren Stevens
Scouts – Ages 10 to 14 – led by Tom Winyard
The Group is led by our Group Lead Volunteer, Bob Thorpe, and the Group, as a charity, has a Trustee Board to provide overall governance.
All our adults, from Team Leaders through to our helpers, are volunteers and we are only able to operate due to their amazing generosity with their time. Most have busy jobs but are still prepared to spend evenings and weekends making sure our young people have a fabulous time learning new skills and having fun. To be fair, the adults also have a great time.
Care to join us? You certainly will not regret it.
