2024 Group Camp – Walter Davies Campsite
1st Hedgerley Scouts began October with an all section camp. Young people from Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts joined together for a two night camp at Walter Davies Campsite in Stoke Poges. Although the weather looked bleak at the start of the week, the sun shone all weekend, thankfully making for mostly dry tents at camp closure.

Numerous activities were planned for the Saturday, from assault courses and archery, to backwards cooking and branding. One of the most popular activities of the day was paracording, which allowed the Scouts to practise their knots and make bracelets, keyrings and woggles. All sections were free to wander round camp, trying out new skills and working together to complete challenges.

After a well-earned hearty dinner of pasta bolognese and apple pie and custard, the evening moved to the camp fire for songs and marshmallows. Section Leaders led the whole group with some very vociferous singing, proving they bring not only practical skills to the Group, but inherent talent!
This was the first time for some of the younger members of the group that they had spent a Scout camp sleeping in a tent. After a few nerves, and eventually lots of excitement, sleep was had by most (!), contributing to gaining those all important Nights Away Activity badges.
The camp wrapped up on the Sunday with various team challenge games and races, including welly-throwing, egg and spoon race, and football and hockey skills, but not before an end-of-camp October barbeque. Fortunately the weather held out for that one.
Thank you to all our volunteers, parent helpers and, of course, our Scout Group members for a successful, well-organised and fun camp. We couldn’t put these events on without your help and participation.
We’re looking forward to the next one!
